The Lady Raptors Swim and Dive team had a big win last Wednesday against St. Mary’s Academy. Although the weather was cold outside, the temps in the pool were heating up with the fast times and excellent sportsmanship demonstrated by all the girls.
In the 100-yard fly, Ellen Wilson, Silver Creek High School junior, took 1st place. Sydney Wood (9th) and Bibi Humphrey (11th) both won their heats in the 100 freestyle race, and Wood won 1st place overall in the event.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Silver Creek swept the race with top places and fast times. The 100-yard backstroke was the next event and Silver Creek Raptor, Megan Bader, took 1st in the first heat, although the team fell short in the 2nd heat and placed 3rd.
The women continued to dominate the meet in the 100-yard breaststroke. Senior Captain Annika Sesselman easily took 1st place and showed her speed and strength as she finished more than 7 seconds ahead of the 2nd place swimmer.
In addition to the exciting events and fast times, a few Raptors qualified for the state competition.
“We had a bunch of state qualifiers already, the first meet back”, said Sesselman, one of our Raptors bound for the state competition.
In the final event of the meet, the 400-yard free relay, the Lady Raptors came out strong and never gave up. With a lead of nearly half a lap and a dominant finish, the girls took both 1st and 2nd place.
“We were all hyping each other up, we were all staying positive, we had a good mindset going in, everyone was cheering on the deck for basically everyone who was swimming”, says Sesselman.
With the positive energy from the fans, the enthusiastic cheering of their teammates and the lightning-fast event times, it was a hot night for the Silver Creek Swim and Dive Team!
