Some people say that Kindness is contagious.
If you treat others with kindness and respect, in turn, they will do the same to you. This is the concept around St. Vrain Valley Schools’ Kindness Week which is scheduled for February 17-21st.
During Kindness Week, students, faculty, staff, and administrators will be encouraged to perform acts of kindness and respect within our community.
Devin Clark, our Athletic Secretary here at Silver Creek High School (SCHS), and Carrie Adams, Silver Creek Leadership’s Academy (SCLA) director, will be providing leadership for this special week at Silver Creek High School.
Devin Clark explains, “our goal is to get as many clubs, parent organizations, teachers, and teams involved as possible and make it a big thing.”
St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD) will be donating $500 of stipend money to the school that organizes the most events and proves that they demonstrated the most kindness.
“Of course we’re competitive,” said Clark so “of course we will win!”.
Most importantly, “We just want people to know how great Silver Creek is and although we promote kindness year-round, we want Kindness Week to show everyone that this is a great place to be and how we care about everyone in our community,” Clark said.
Adams is also playing an important role in Kindness Week and several members of SCLA will be involved in organizing events during the week. Additionally, Sources of Strength will be promoting this school-wide event. SCLA members will be raising money for their capstone projects in conjunction with Kindness Week.
“At Silver Creek, kindness and service leadership are part of our culture. Kindness Week is a reminder to stay focused on thinking of others, bring your group together for something meaningful, and continue to build a strong and supportive community,” Adams said.
Many groups and programs here at Silver Creek will be participating in various kindness events throughout the week. Students Demand Action will be making kindness rocks, Donuts and Devotions will be providing “love buckets” to place in each wing for staff valentines, and SCHS Volleyball will be placing positivity notes on lockers around the building.
Everyone appreciates a little kindness. What seems like simple acts of kindness, have the power to change a day or even a week, for the better. Giving a basic compliment, lending a hand, or at the very least, just smiling at someone while walking the halls or out in the community.
