Capstone Spotlight: Raptor Report
The room is lit with bright lights as the sound of intro music blasts around the room. In the middle of the screen is Brooklyn Goldstone, the Class of 2025’s host for Silver Creek High School’s Raptor Report.
Silver Creek Leadership Academy (SCLA) is a four year program that leads up to the student's Senior apstone Projects. Raptor Report is a broadcasting system in which students and staff get informed of sporting events, clubs such as art club and poetry club, and to advertise social events.
Goldstone was inspired by her connection to a previous host of the broadcast, Katie Bogdanova (2023) and her love for the project itself.
“I adored Katie. I was in youth council with her, and she was so much fun,” Goldstone said.
Aspiring to be a filmmaker in the future, Goldstone is “most comfortable,” when in her work.
“I absolutely loved watching the Raptor Reports every month,” Gladstone said.“So when I found out it was an SCLA capstone project, that's what I knew I wanted to do when I got to be her age.”
Not only is she inspired by others' work, but she aspires to create something impactful of her own.
Mentors Tina Fredo and Kristin Holtz, the Silver Creek librarians have helped out with the project before.
As mentors, they do many tasks such as helping Goldstone with ideas, managing and keeping up with activities, and make sure she covers what the principal asks Goldstone to.
“We've been trying to help her get in contact with the different club members who will give her information back,” Fredo said.
As “guides” for this project, Fredo and Holtz have lots of insight for what goes on behind the scenes. This is especially true as they have done this before.
“It's similar in a lot of ways to the student we mentored a couple years ago, but it's also different because Brooklynn's personality is different,” Holtz said. “And I'm enjoying seeing her make this her own, and how she's incorporating her ideas.”.
Alexandria Payton, a freshman at Silver Creek High School says Raptor Report makes her feel more “connected with the school,”
“It's always something that I'm included in,” Payton said. “It's nice to have that.”
Informing is what Raptor Report is about, but it also gives some people a sense of belonging, a sense that they know what's going on around them.
Raptor Report updates everyone on the school’s events and is shown monthly during advisory. Make sure to watch Raptor Report in Advisory and if you would like to join the team of wonderful people working with Raptor Report, fill out this form!
