Many High Schools are allowed to have vending machines, but there have been restrictions and complications surrounding them. Silver Creek High School doesn’t have any right now because of the difficulties that have occurred.

Silver Creek High School, as of right now, has no vending machines. If Silver Creek were to get vending machines, there would be many complications and worries about them. The Silver Creek staff team decided to get rid of them in 2020 because vending machines were a distraction and students were sticking their arms up the vending machines and they kept breaking. However, many students wish we still had vending machines.

“I would like chips to be sold in the vending machines.” Says 10th Grader Miller Darrah, but he has some concerns he stated “it might cause a lot of traffic wherever they are though.”

Mia Frazier, a 12th Grader at Silver Creek, also expresses her opinion on the vending machines.

“If vending machines had gum that would be very good” says Frazier.

The Silver Creek team decided to dispose of the vending machines because they caused more harm than good. Ann Arling The principal’s secretary knows a lot about the subject, since she was a part of the disposal of them.

”The vending machines are run by an outside company, the school doesn’t have any control over when they come, when they don’t come, and the companies who supply the vending machines make the profit off the vending machines,” said Arling

Now with no vending machines, the school gets more money from the snacks sold at lunch. With enough money raised at lunch, the school could make things nicer in the cafeteria, like adding more things to sell during lunch and make upgrades around the cafeteria.

Another reason the school decided to dispose of the vending machines is because they were a distraction. Many people would leave class to go get a snack and be gone for a very long time. Students would also tip over and break the vending machines trying to get snacks out.

“The vending machines were a distraction for kids always wanting to leave class, and now Nutrition Services makes the money.” Says Arling.

On the surface, vending machines seem like a good idea, but once you understand why the Silver Creek staff decided to get rid of them, you know now why we don’t have them. Without vending machines, students won’t be distracted during class and the money goes back into the school.
