How often do you have threatening encounters?

Officer Douglas :

How often do I encounter life-threatening encounters? Hard to say exactly but the job has its inherent dangers no matter what the call is. We often respond to car accidents in the roadway with angry or impatient drivers going around the scene while we are working it. That can be dangerous. Although we are less likely as School Resource Officers to encounter day to day threatening encounters, we often still respond to emergency situations in the community. Especially if we are the closest to the call. The bigger point is, you just never know which encounter will be the one. EVERY show you watch where an Officer recounts a critical incident they will usually say something along the lines of, “It was a routine traffic stop (or fill in the blank for a traffic stop).” This means the Officer did not see any abnormal danger in the situation until it was happening. This is why police officers have to be hyper-vigilant at all times.
